August 11, 2023 - Alaska

Today we started the long journey to Alaska.  Right off the bat, we were in trouble.  Our flight to Atlanta was delayed.  We would arrive well after our flight to Alaska had departed.  They had already booked us on a later flight  -- but it would get us into Anchorage at 1AM!  Remember, there is four hour difference between Baltimore and Anchorage so that really meant 5AM our time.   But soon after we arrived in Atlanta, we noticed that our original flight from Atlanta to Anchorage was now delayed and we would be able to catch it.  So we ended up arriving in Anchorage about 10PM, three hours later than scheduled but still much better than 1AM.

On our Atlanta - Anchorage leg, we flew over a layer the entire flight, but I did catch this neat shot of another jet zooming past us overhead.

There he goes!  Actually the flight wasn't too bad:  Watching two movies -- Dune and American Underdog (the Kurt Warner story) -- really helped pass the time.

The next day in Wasilla, Alaska at our daugther Maggie's house.

When we were last here in April, the ground was snow-covered.

Look at all those 747s at the Anchorage Airport!  Six in this picture.  Anchorage is a big air freight hub.
